A viva-Las-Vegas for good clean fun, Branson is a little bitty Ozarks town of 7,000 that attracts seven million people every year to 100 glitzy shows in 49 theatres on its own neon-studded ‘Strip’. But with headliner acts like Andy Williams and Ukrainian-born American comedian Yakov Smirnoff, the wildest Branson gets is when the buffalo come thundering onstage to open Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede Dinner & Show.

The brainchild of entertainment giant and genius animator Walt Disney is an ever-expanding universe of make believe and escapism, celebrating magic, technology, nature and, of course, Mickey Mouse. Walt Disney World is the ultimate theme park and the most popular tourist attraction on the planet. In the 30-plus years since it opened its doors, the 30,000-acre former cow pasture has grown to encompass four distinct parks and an assortment of other entertainments.

“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up.” (James 4:10). That’s the prescription that Pennsylvania’s Amish and Mennonite communities have lived by since the 1720s, when they settled here as part of William Penn’s grand experiment in religious tolerance. Both groups had their beginnings in the European Anabaptist movement of the 16th century, which taught that baptism should occur at adulthood, and that those so baptised should live apart from the larger society.

In summer, the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area turns into one giant steam room, sending residents to pitch their sun umbrellas and stake their space on the Jersey Shore’s nearly 130 miles of beaches. Resorts and boardwalk entertainment districts boomed beginning in the late 19th century, and today the shore is a glorious mishmash, from hard-partying seaside bars, famous rock ’n’ roll clubs and neon-lit boardwalk Americana to family-oriented beaches, beautiful lighthouses and a whole galaxy of motels, inns and summer rental properties.

Pennsylvania is named the “Keystone” state because of its integral part in the historical vote for independence and for being the supporting vote for a new government.

Besides being known as the “Keystone” state, Pennsylvania has several other nicknames, including the “Quaker” state -named for the religion of the Quaker William Penn who settled the state. The “Coal” state, the “Oil” state and also the “Steel” state are three additional nicknames for Pennsylvania due to the state’s three largest industries.

Pennsylvania is separated into fourteen different metropolitan areas: Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown, Scranton-Wilkes-Barre, Harrisburg, Lancaster, York-Hanover, Reading, Erie, Johnston, State College, Altoona, Sharon and Williamsport.
