A bustling college town where freight trains rumble and old West meets south of the border, Tucson is Arizona’s second-largest city, but it still exudes a small town feel. Distinct neighborhoods and 19th-century buildings give it a rich sense of community and history not found in the more modern and sprawling Phoenix, which boasts a more cosmopolitan (though disputably soulless) energy.

The Old Pueblo, as Tucson is affectionately known, is built upon a deep Native American, Spanish, Mexican, and Old West foundation. Arizona’s second-largest city is both a bustling center of business and a relaxed university and vacation resort town. Metropolitan Tucson has more than 850,000 residents, including thousands of snowbirds who flee colder climes to enjoy the warm sun that shines on the city more than 340 days a year.

Tucson is a modern western city nestled against a panorama of mountains and perched on the edge of the desert. It is a great place to visit for hiking, kayaking, fishing and of course horseback riding. The resorts in the Tucson area make full use of the beautiful scenery, the abundant sunshine and its old west’s charm. Tucson is the second largest city in the state of Arizona. The name derived form the Native American words for Black Base.
