By day, stroll the side streets of the historic district, grazing on street food and local dishes like mallorcas (grilled pastries filled with ham and cheese), mofongo (mashed plantains, garlic and herbs with chicken), bacalaitos (salted cod fritters) and piragua (mounds of flavoured shaved ice). By night, head to the lively SoFo district (South of Calle Fortaleza) for a music and dance scene that includes bomba, danza, salsa and reggaeton—the hybrid of rap and reggae—pouring out into the streets from the raft of late-night clubs.
