Built for a prominent banker in the mid-1800s, Gran Melia Fenix upholds Madrid’s neoclassical heritage on the Plaza de Colón.

A complete renovation in 2002 brought out the best in the building. The original chandelier still shines beneath the art-nouveau glass of the central rotunda—as does the piano lounge’s bar, one of only two in the world made from a single piece of onyx.
