L’Auberge Carmel

It was in front of the stunning scenery of Big Sur that Henry Miller said that he learnt to pray. To take the time to meditate in front of the immensity of these cliffs which seem to plunge down into the ocean- the little village of artists of Carmel-by-the-Sea is the ideal base.

Halfway between San Francisco and the coast of Santa Barbara- inhabited by seals- whales and other marine mammals- the village – where Clint Eastwood was once mayor – will charm you with its many art galleries and pebble beaches.

Cooperstown New York not only baseball

A gracious, tree-lined village amid upstate New York’s woodlands, Cooperstown sits proudly stuck in time on the southern tip of placid Otsego Lake, a hill-ringed lake so crystal clear it is the source of the town’s drinking water. According to legend, it was here, in 1839, that Abner Doubleday laid out the dimensions of a diamond and originated the game of baseball—a distinction that’s made the town a pilgrimage site for baseball lovers and home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

Getting Around Bermuda

Bermuda may be easy to get to — after all, this mid-Atlantic archipelago is a quick flight from most East Coast gateways — but getting around isn’t as easy as you might expect, especially if you were planning on driving yourself in a rented convertible. That’s right: Rental cars are not permitted on Bermuda, so if you’d like your own wheels you’ll have to settle for two on a rented scooter. Once you master driving on the left-hand side of the road you’ll be set; otherwise, Bermuda’s buses and ferries are reliable and cover most of the island.
