Visiting Montauk New York

If there’s no traffic then it’s about a two and a half hour drive from Manhattan to Montauk. And to everybody going there, it’s well worth the trip. Montauk is on the easternmost part of the South Fork of Long Island, New York. It’s where New York State Route 27 ends. This can be especially true if you decide to take a detour or two along the way. Although the beaches are beautiful, and the fishing is fine (Montauk’s the fishing capital of the world), a lot of people seem to end up, at one time or another, at the Montauk Point Lighthouse.

Marfa Texas

In 1971, minimalist artist Donald Judd headed west from New York in search of a place to create and permanently house his increasingly large-form sculptures. West of the Pecos, he found the quiet town of Marfa and its Fort D. A. Russell, a decommissioned military base, where he created the Chinati Foundation, one of the country’s finest exhibition spaces for contemporary installation art.

Visiting New York City Museums

This is Metropolis. This is Gotham City. This is New York City, this is the one all the other cities wish they were—”the only real city-city,” as Truman Capote put it. Its skyscrapers loom above canyon-like streets, where some 8.3 million New Yorkers go about their daily business. They say it’s the capital of the world … few disagree that it is the capital of the art world. For a superficial glimpse of its mind-boggling offers, make a visit to its three heavy hitters—and an insider’s favorite.

Hudson Valley Wander through one of America’s loveliest river valleys

In 1609, Dutch explorer Henry Hudson sailed up the river that now bears his name, looking for passage to the Orient’s riches. He didn’t find it, but he did uncover one of the most scenic waterways in the world. Two hundred years later, Robert Fulton first launched the steamboat on its waters in 1807, and as the centuries rolled by, the Hudson exerted a profound effect on American history, art, literature and environmental policies.
